Altered birdcage

When we were on vacation I found this little birdcage in a flower shop, and I loved it. Once we were home I got some ideas to alter it. I was inspired by the moodboard from Dusty Attic Challenge August to work with these gorgeous colors. I love the earthy green and rusty effect. I would like to enter my project for this challenge.

The birdcage was turquoise when I bought it. I used so many paints, sprays, glitter and more paint to give it this aged look. I used Ornate pendants #3 and Hashtag Sayings chipboard pieces from Dusty Attic. I used the pendant to create the hanging part for the praying angel from Relics&Artifacts Archival (Milagros). I've made this project also for the challenge from the Relics&Artifacts Tribe on Facebook.

Many metal elements are from Scrap unlimited
I used some to tear apart and alter the little bird on top. Below are some close up pictures.

My all time favorite part: using Swarovski crystals and lots of ultra fine glitter and some holographic glitter dots. I used some painted leaves from the branch to create wings for the angel.

Thank you for watching!

Just a whisper

There is a new challenge at 7 Dots Studio, it is called 'metallic colors or texture'.
I hope you'll join us!

Metallic colors are my favorite...I love everything shiny, shimmering and that's why I have so many gorgeous shimmering paints and inks. It was not hard at all to use the elements from this theme in my project!
I used gold as my metallic color and the circle shaped metal trinket behind my butterfly, has lots of texture, created with glass glitter, glass beads and rhinestones.
The frame has also texture, because I painted it with golden and graphite acrylic paint, used some tissue paper, painted it again, and when this all was dry, I covered the whole frame with lace.

About my project: I wanted to create something different with the papers from 7 Dots Studio, than a layout, or card or tag.
I die cutted a doily out of a paper from the Homegrown collection ( paper 12 x 12 'Dreamy'). The doily is glued down on the back of  the frame (in the middle) and it has a see-through effect this way.
I stamped my butterflies on paper from Homegrown 6 x 6 paper pad. I used embossing powder on my darker butterfly, and my golden butterfly is stamped with acrylic paint.

Because I felt my angelic butterfly had turned out very mysterious, I was searching for a title that really fitted my project.
I found the title on a word sticker from the Lost and Found collection.... Just a whisper....Mysterious and magical...like my shimmering butterfly. She whispers soft when she flies nearby....

And here is the inspirational circle, I hope you'll be inspired to play along this month!

Thank you for visiting!

'Greatest blessing' mixed media layout

Hi everybody!
I would love to show you my new layout, created with the utterly gorgeous Homegrown collection from 7 Dots Studio. I loved combining the soft pink paper with shades of grey and sort of grey-ish purple, this way the layout is still very soft and sweet.

I was inspired to use these colors, and other elements: flowers, shimmering lights and the word 'happy', by the beautiful and oh so sweet moodboard from the Mixed media place July challenge

I used a photo of my daughter, where she looks so happy...
I would like to enter my layout for this challenge.

I started my layout with stamping Homegrown clear stamps with gesso, on the paper. When dry, I used two different stencils and light paste mixed with pink mica powder, to create some texture. I distressed the edges of the 12 x 12 paper with a paper distresser.

Then I built up my page with papers from the 6 x 6 paper pad, tags, straws, wire and flowers. I used some cardboard between the papers to create more 3D effect.

I stuffed some stamped and embossed butterflies between the papers, and painted the metal hearts and put them between the flowers. As a title I used a word sticker. Then I painted and glued down some art pebbles and splattered with silver and white ink.

As a last step I poored some ultra fine glitter on my layout, that sticks on the hearts and the cheese cloth, this way it gives a subtle shimmer.
